Cadmium Plated B7 Stud Bolts

High Temperature ASTM A193 Grade B7 Bolting

Cadmium plating: restricted-use guidance

Cadmium plating has historically been used where sacrificial corrosion protection, lubricity and reliable assembly behaviour were required. Cadmium is toxic and its use, processing and disposal are restricted in many jurisdictions and industries. It should be considered only when a governing specification explicitly permits it and suitable alternatives have been assessed.

Compliance gate

Confirm legal, customer, end-use and destination-country requirements before quotation or manufacture. The coating facility, documentation, packaging and waste route must meet the applicable environmental and occupational controls.

Alternatives review

Zinc-nickel, zinc flake and engineered barrier/topcoat systems may offer a compliant route for many applications. Equivalence cannot be assumed: corrosion mode, electrical behaviour, friction, temperature and dimensional impact must be compared.

High-strength processing

Electroplating involves hydrogen risk. A project-approved embrittlement-control plan, including cleaning and relief treatment, is necessary for heat-treated bolting.

If cadmium is contractually required

Important: FERROBEND should confirm availability and compliance for the specific destination and end use before accepting a cadmium-coated order.
