A meaningful fastener certificate connects raw material, heat treatment, tests, dimensions, marking and the finished shipment through traceable heat and lot identities. The required document level should be agreed before manufacture—not requested after dispatch.
Core verification areas
Chemical composition
Heat analysis identifies the alloy chemistry. Product analysis may be requested under the governing specification. Results must be traceable to the material heat used for the finished bolting.
Mechanical properties
Tensile strength, yield or proof-related requirements, elongation, reduction of area and hardness are evaluated as required for the grade, diameter and product form.
Dimensions and workmanship
Thread gauges, diameter, length, head dimensions, straightness, finish and surface condition are checked against the ordered dimensional and acceptance standards.
Supplementary and project tests
Impact testing, magnetic-particle or liquid-penetrant examination, ultrasonic examination, coating tests, positive material identification and additional sampling are not automatically included in every B7 order. State each invoked requirement, acceptance criterion, sampling frequency and reporting expectation.
Certificate review checklist
- Purchase order, item description, dimensions, quantity and applicable specifications.
- Manufacturer identity, heat/lot number and traceability to product marking.
- Chemical and mechanical results with units and required values.
- Heat-treatment condition and dates or batch identity where required.
- Coating specification and test results when finished product is coated.
- Authorized validation, certificate revision and statement of conformity.
Marking and traceability
Grade symbols and manufacturer identification help maintain identity, but marking rules vary with product size and specification. Packaging labels and inspection records should preserve the same traceability through receipt and installation. Mixed or unidentifiable lots should be quarantined pending review.
